Full name: Cristina Gonzalez Chaves

I grew up in Isabela, Puerto Rico. Our home was always full of books. Whether it was Reader’s Digest or the latest Barbara Cartland novel, my mom always had a book in her hand. She even read comics. She was, and still is, a walking dictionary. As a baby, I’d sit next to her and read too (even if the magazine was upside down).

My mom bought me a Smith Corona typewriter when I was 10 years old and I have been writing stories ever since.

I have self-published six books, all inspired by Puerto Rico, including my first non-fiction work, Tina’s Story: A Mini Memoir. I am now looking to start anew with a career in traditional publishing focusing on outspoken heroines and big adventures. I’m currently querying a middle grade fantasy adventure and I cannot wait to work with a team that will help me bring this book series into the hands (and hearts) of readers.

I tell stories full of humor, heart and the strong bonds between family, friends and our (magical) pets. Caring for the environment and protecting animals are also important themes. Above all, I have a passion for writing stories that blend color, music and magic.

I am inspired by my favorite songs (80s, 90s, Lady Gaga and more) and my childhood. My heroes growing up were She-Ra, Jem, Punky Brewster, Clarissa and Blossom. They taught me girls could be smart, funny and STRONG. Films like Ghostbusters, Pretty in Pink and Beetlejuice taught me that being different is awesome

I enjoy cozying up with a book: history, comics, science, nature, fiction and everything in between. I love to crochet, play World of Warcraft, any Assassin’s Creed game on PS5, indie games on Steam, read tarot and play board games.

I live in Orlando, Florida. I graduated with a dual degree in History and English- Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida. I’ve previously been a library teacher where I created my own crocheting classes and created the Kids Writing Club, a writing workshop for kids 8-12.

I am mom to five adopted cats: Ruby, Chicky, Lucy, Sam & Dean. I have fostered cats for Pet Alliance Orlando and Orange County Animal Services and suggest you try it, too. Fostering saves lives!

I’m Cristina.
